How our Flooring is Different!
Most hardwood flooring in the United States is made in large, highly automated plants. It’s been done that way for over a hundred years. These manufacturers take low quality lumber and turn it into some quite nice flooring. The problem is that their flooring is typically only 2 ¼ inches wide, sometimes 3 ¼. While that is bad enough, the really bad part is that the floorboards are short. Too short, in our opinion. Select, a premium grade, is only required to average 3 ¼ feet! The lower grades, needless to say, are shorter. Flooring of this type is a commodity. Still, the upper grades command fairly high prices. We think that most people would not buy this type flooring, if they knew what was available, at similar prices.
We manufacture flooring a little differently. Instead of starting with the low grades of hardwood lumber, we use the higher grades!! For our Select Grade of flooring, we use lumber grades that are usually reserved for architectural millwork, the main characteristic being long, clear lengths. For our Natural Grade, we use the upper Common grades of hardwoods, lumber that often is used in furniture production. Whichever grade of lumber is used, each board is pre-sized to maximize usage of the board, and to produce flooring that is pleasing to the eye. During every step of the manufacturing process, each board is inspected for aesthetic purposes and also for yield. This ensures the most beautiful product, and at the least expensive price. Depending on the board’s natural characteristics, it will go into the Select or Natural grade. This process results in wide plank flooring that is 3-8 inches wide, and up to twelve feet in length. When compared to ordinary flooring, there is no comparison!
