Wide Plank Flooring Prices
All our flooring is milled from rough-sawn Appalachian mountain hardwood lumber that has been kiln-dried to 6-9% moisture content. This lumber is graded according to National Hardwood Lumber Association rules to ensure quality and value.
As a custom mill, we inspect the lumber a minimum of six times during the manufacturing process. This ensures that the appearance that we are looking for is garnered from every board and that the highest quality and yield possible is attained. This attention to detail saves us money and allows for the very attractive prices that we offer our customers.
Kentucky’s Finest Flooring™,a random mixture of 3-6 inch planks, is the product of our meticulous method of manufacturing hardwood flooring. Two grades, Select and Natural are produced. Select wide plank flooring is comprised mostly of clear areas of both sapwood and heartwood. Natural wide plank flooring consists of both clear lumber, but also includes natural “defects”, such as knots, mineral streaks, splits, and variations in color and grain. For the most part, these natural characteristics are not allowed in the Select grade, which is virtually clear. Select grade does allow unlimited amounts of heartwood and sapwood. However, they combine to make beautiful floors, just different ones. These natural, or rustic, or character floors have become very popular in the last few years. Which is better or more beautiful?! Hard to say, as beauty is in the eye of the beholder! You might like Select the best, your spouse might like Natural. Let the games begin!
Our price range is $3-4.00 per square foot for random width flooring (our Kentucky's Finest Flooring™) consisting of 3-6 inch planks in the following species: Ash, Hickory, Wormy Maple, Red and White Oak, and Poplar. Walnut, Cherry, and Quartersawn Oak will be higher. Prices for wider flooring and single widths will be higher. These prices are for minimum quantities of 1000 square feet. Smaller quantities may cost more. As we are a custom manufacturer, and every order is different, we urge you to contact us by phone or email for a quote on your exact needs. You’ll be glad you did!
Apples with Apples! When you are trying to decide which or whose flooring to purchase, be sure that you are getting prices on comparable products. Width is easy enough, you would think. Well, not all the time! Some folks sell a mixture of 3-5-7” as a standard product, but their widths are nominal, not actual. That is, the widths really are 2½, ,4½ and 6½”, instead of the advertised 3-5-7". Due to loss of square footage, if you purchase this, you’re paying about 10 percent more than the advertised price!! And now to lengths. Beware nested flooring! (See our FAQ’s for more info) Just make sure that you will get the longer lengths that set custom flooring apart from the ordinary, no matter from whom you purchase your flooring. It will make a huge difference in the appearance of your floors. Remember Oranges with Oranges!
